For You, Now That You’re Gone

Today’s poem was inspired by Robert Lee Brewer’s prompt at . Click on the Dropbox link below the poem to hear me read it.

I’m a writer who carries out a lone existence,

as I did ten years ago before we were married.

I no longer struggle to find writing time

in a 40-hour work week. I wake up,

write, eat breakfast, write some more,

work out at the YMCA or take a walk,

eat lunch, write some more,

end the day with Dr. Pepper, e-mail,

and Facebook, eat dinner, read the newspaper

and snail mail, recline with a good book,

go to bed, think of you, wish you were here.
