Fifty years ago on June 1st, the album was first released. When I was about six or seven, my parents bought a copy. I enjoyed listening to it, although I couldn’t understand most of the songs, and a few of them seemed wild to me. Ten years later when my brother got his first drum set, he played along with the record. Today, I still have the album on CD and am listening to it, as I write this. I searched in vain on YouTube for the original title track, but the closest thing I found was this. Enjoy, and have a great Saturday.

Thanks for the post Abbie! I wish I’d kept that record when I found it among Dad’s records. But I gave it away at the record store downtown.

Oh well, maybe you could buy the 50th anniversary edition. It has more stuff on it, anyway. Glad you enjoyed the song and memories.

I remember waiting for our music appreciation class to start. I sat listening to my transistor radio when Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band came on. It was brand new and I wanted to hear that Beatles song. As I grooved to it, Mrs McMaster came into the music room and I had to turn off the radio. I felt disgusted that I couldn’t listen to that song all the way through but what else could I do? I bought the vinyl album but it got all scratched up because of my carelessness and my sister playing it all the time. I later bought the marble-coloured version. I don’t have the CD yet but I might buy it someday when my budget recovers.
