Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati. The song I’m featuring was popular when I was growing up. Not into romance like other girls, I wasn’t impressed. Now, it’s the only one I can think of that fits Helen’s theme this week of “first.”
I think my late husband Bill, who was totally blind, fell in love with my voice when he first heard it. For me, it wasn’t the first time I saw his face that did it. You can read more of our story in My Ideal Partner. Now here’s the song.
Roberta Flack–The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Lyrics Courtesy of Googgle
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
The first time ever I saw your face
Your face, your face

Great choice. I was going to use this one too. Loved the movie, “Play Misty For Me.”

Thank you. This week’s theme was tough, so it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you used this song as well. You might have a different perspective you could include in your post.

Love this song and it makes me happy to see it used so many times. Yes, I *am* that person who will listen to the same song multiple times and enjoy it *every* time! Thank you for this.

This song holds a very special and specific night in my life but it holds a spell over my entire life from the age of 15 when I first met the 17 year old boy who would be my husband. We had the joy of being in a supper club in New Castle, PA, in our early 20s. That night Roberta Flack was the guest performer. I will never forget hearing this son that night – for my first time. We were with another couple who were our best friends. The entire place was silent as we all listened to Roberta sing. It was pure magic. After 57 years of marriage , the song says it all to me when I remember that one night when we heard Roberta play the piano and sing it.
