I’m not gay or bisexual, but I’m angered by this blogger’s stipulation that someone who is openly gay shouldn’t run for President of the United States because it wouldn’t look good for our country. Maybe it wouldn’t, but why not? Why can’t people see that those who are of another sexual orientation are no different from you and me? I don’t know much about the candidate he’s talking about, but if I don’t vote for him, it won’t be because he’s openly gay.

Jim isn’t saying that Mayor Pete, or anyone else, should not run for president. Indeed he says he has no problem with that, (although he personally is not ready for it.)

To me, the fact that Jim isn’t ready for a gay President says that he has a problem with our country having a gay President, although he denies it.

He personally isn’t ready for it BUT is willing to accept it. I think that is a healthy attitude.

Abbie & Pete, Tonight on CBS’s Survivor, it was family night, where each remaining contestant gets a visit from a loved one. One contestant is gay and his partner and he shared a tearful and loving reunion on national TV. They won the contest and got to spend more time together. I think America was ready for that. As for a gay president … I don’t know if anyone, gay or straight, will be able to beat Trump as long as the economic numbers remain as good as they have been. Meanwhile, I think it’s great that it’s being talked about, but I hope we vote for someone based on their ideas and some sense of personal ethics/social responsibility and not because of whom they sleep with.

Just so you all know, this blogger has deleted his post because he has received too many comments opposing his position. Before doing so, he posed a thought-provoking question. What if our country’s name were changed to the DSA, (Divided States of America) since we are a nation divided. Before I could reply to this, the post was gone.
Here’s what I would have said. As long as people refuse to open their minds, our nation and world will always be divided.

Abbie, I am saddened to hear that he took down his post. I don’t think it helps us move forward if, when someone has the courage to admit that they aren’t there yet, people immediately attack that person instead of trying to engage them in a conversation that could help open their eyes.

That’s what I thought we were doing, engaging him in a conversation in the hope that he would see the other side. If he’s not willing to open his eyes, that’s his problem, not ours.

I don’t know, Donna, but if he didn’t want to open a proverbial can of worms, why did he even write the post? I’m seriously considering the possibility of no longer participating in his Song Lyric Sunday challenge, even though it’s the most popular feature on my blog. If I do this, I’ll re-instate a similar feature I was doing several years ago before I discovered Song Lyric Sunday. Since I already have a post ready to go for this Sunday, I’ll wait and see how I feel then.

Abbie, I don’t know. It sounds to me like he is seriously conflicted and maybe getting hit with conflicting emotions that are threatening his whole view of life. He might have initially thought he could handle it, but then he couldn’t. As for the song lyrics series, see what feels comfortable to you as some time passes. Maybe you don’t need to stop carrying it. And, maybe you’re ready to start doing your own series.
