For Christmas of 1969 when I was eight years old, I received my first and only eight-track tape player. It came with two small speakers and three cartridges, one of which was Simon and Garfunkel’s album, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Over the years, I acquired other eight-track tapes by Gordon Lightfoot, Three Dog Night, Sonny and Cher, The Carpenters, and others. But Bridge Over Troubled Water has always been one of my favorites. You can read more about my music listening and singing at https://abbiescorner.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/eight-track-memories/. Now, click below to hear me sing my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song.

New! The Red Dress
Copyright July 2019 by DLD Books
When Eve went to her high school senior prom, she wore a red dress that her mother had made for her. That night, after dancing with the boy of her dreams, she caught him in the act with her best friend. Months later, Eve, a freshman in college, is bullied into giving the dress to her roommate. After her mother finds out, their relationship is never the same again.
Twenty-five years later, Eve, a bestselling author, is happily married with three children. Although her mother suffers from dementia, she still remembers, and Eve still harbors the guilt for giving the dress away. When she receives a Facebook friend request from her old college roommate and an invitation to her twenty-five-year high school class reunion, then meets her former best friend by chance, she must confront the past in order to face the future.

I had this album too, but on vinyl that I played on an old turntable until I almost wore it out. I was a senior in high school Christmas of ’69, I had just turned 18 three weeks before.

Because of my limited vision, record needles and I didn’t get along. I either scratched the rcord or didn’t get the needle exactly at the beginning of the record. That’s what I loved about eight-tracks. I just had to insert the tape in the player, and it played. When I was done listening, I just pulled it out. No harm was done except for the rare occasions when the tape came unraveled. Thank you for sharing your memories.
