Song Lyric Sunday: Houston Solution

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati. Click here for guidelines. This week’s theme is “hide.” I was stumped. In fact, I had to sleep on it after Helen posted the theme last night. That’s one reason I’m late in posting.

I finally remembered this song by Ronnie Milsap in which he talks about leaving his problems in Nashville and retreating to Houston to stay with friends for a while. In the song, he makes a good point that you can’t hide from trouble; it’ll eventually find you. As you enjoy this song, I hope you don’t have any problems from which you feel you must hide.

I’ve got some friends down in Houston

Who know me quite well

They’ll be more than happy to put me up for a spell

I can hang out or hide out whichever I choose

They won’t ask me questions about why I’ve got the blues

I’ve got a Houston solution in mind

All it takes is a call on the telephone line

And I can leave all these problems in Nashville behind

I’ve got a Houston solution in mind

Well, my Daddy once told me you can’t run away

Your troubles will follow and find you some day

There’s no need to argue cause he’s probably right

But I’ve run out of options and I’m leaving tonight

I’ve got a Houston solution in mind

All it takes is a call on the telephone line

And I can leave all these problems in Nashville behind

I’ve got a Houston solution in mind

I’ve got a Houston solution in mind

I’ve got a Houston solution…

Song Lyric Sunday: I Finally Found Someone

Song Lyric Sunday was created by blogger Helen Vahdati. Click here for guidelines.

This week’s theme is “find/found.” Today’s pick was on a cassette of love songs my late husband sent me soon after his marriage proposal.

At the time, we were living about five hundred miles apart; he in Fowler, Colorado, and me here in Sheridan, Wyoming. After meeting through a magazine, we started out as friends, corresponding by email daily and sometimes by phone, then boom!

In January of 2005, he was sure he’d found someone. Because I wasn’t expecting it, his proposal was a shock. It took me a while to realize I’d found someone too. You can read more about this in My Ideal Partner.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy the song. If you haven’t found someone yet, maybe you will someday. Who knows?

I finally found someone, that knocks me off my feet

I finally found the one, that makes me feel complete

We started over coffee, we started out as friends

It’s funny how from simple things, the best things begin

This time it’s different, dah dah dah dah

It’s all because of you, dah dah dah dah

It’s better than it’s ever been

‘Cause we can talk it through

Oh, my favorite line was “Can I call you sometime?”

It’s all you had to say to take my breath away

This is it, oh, I finally found someone

Someone to share my life

I finally found the one, to be with every night

‘Cause whatever I do, it’s just got to be you

My life has just begun

I finally found someone, oh, someone

I finally found someone, oh

Did I keep you waiting, I didn’t mind

I apologize, baby, that’s fine

I would wait forever just to know you were mine

And I love your hair, are you sure it looks right?

I love what you wear, isn’t it too tight?

You’re exceptional, I can’t wait for the rest of my life

This is it, oh, I finally found someone

Someone to share my life

I finally found the one, to be with every night

‘Cause whatever I do, it’s just got to be you

My life has just begun

I finally found someone, oh, someone

I finally found someone, oh

Whatever I do, it’s just got to be you

My life has just begun

I finally found someone

Song Lyric Sunday: Band on the Run

Song Lyric Sunday was created by blogger Helen Vahdati. For guidelines click here.

This week’s theme is “search.” The song is about a whole town searching for a band of escaped jail inmates who will never be found. When I was in the sixth or seventh grade, my family was living in Sheridan, Wyoming, and my father sold and serviced coin-operated machines.

I had a remote control unit and speaker in my bedroom that were connected to a jukebox downstairs. “Band on the Run” was one of many songs I listened to frequently. In case you’re wondering what kind of parents I had that allowed their child to listen to a song about escaped criminals never being found, let me assure you that although I loved the song and still do, I never grew up to be part of a band on the run. Enjoy the song, and have a great day.

Band on the Run–Paul McCartney

Lyrics Courtesy of Google

Stuck inside these four walls

Sent inside forever

Never seeing no one

Nice again like you

Mama you, mama you

If I ever get out of her,

Thought of giving it all away

To a registered charity.

All I need is a pint a day

If I ever get outta here

If we ever get outta of here

Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash

As we fell into the sun

And the first one said to the second one there

I hope you’re having fun

Band on the run, band on the run

And the jailer man and sailor Sam

Were searching every one

For the band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh

Seeing no one else had come

And a bell was ringing in the village square

For the rabbits on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

And the jailer man and sailor Sam

Were searching every one

For the band on the run

Band on the run

Yeah the band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Well, the night was falling as the desert world

Began to settle down.

In the town they’re searching for us everywhere

But we never will be found

Band on the run

Band on the run

And the county judge who held a grudge

Will search for evermore

For the band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Band on the run

Song Lyric Sunday: Sweet Dreams

This blog feature was created by Helen Vahdati. For guidelines, click here.

This week’s theme is “sleep.” The song I’m including is more about dreaming of the one you love, but sometimes when you’re dreaming, you’re asleep. I’ve dreamt about being with my husband Bill after he passed. The song echoes my sentiment after it was necessary for Bill to move to a nursing home a month before his death. I hope that tonight, you have sweet dreams, whether you’re with or without the one you love.

Air Supply—Sweet Dreams

Lyrics Courtesy of Google

This is the time when you need a friend

You just need someone near

I’m not looking forward to the night

I’ll spend thinking of you when you’re not here

How many times will I think about the things

I’d like to do

Always denied the right to live my life the way I want

I want to share it with you

Close your eyes

I want to ride the skies in my sweet dreams

Close your eyes

I want to see you tonight in my sweet dreams

I’ll think of your kiss as the days roll by

And I’ll write the words you love

What I can’t say in a letter

Will just have to wait till I get home

There’s not much time to tell you

Half the things I should

Only that I’m so glad I fell in love with you

And I’d do it again if I could

Close your eyes

I want to ride the skies in my sweet dreams

Close your eyes

I want to see you tonight in my sweet dreams

Sleep like a child resting deep

You don’t know what you give me I keep

For these moments alone

Song Lyric Sunday: Heart of Glass

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati. If you’d like to participate, click here for guidelines.

This week’s theme is “glass.” The song below was popular in the 1970’s when I was in high school. I couldn’t understand it back then, but I liked the tune and still do. Enjoy, and have a great day.

Blondie–Heart of Glass

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind
In between
What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine
Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind
If I fear I’m losing you it’s just no good
You teasing like you do
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love’s gone behind
Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I’m the one you’re using, please don’t push me aside
We coulda made it cruising, yeah
Yeah, riding high on love’s true bluish light
In between
What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine
Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind
If I fear I’m losing you it’s just no good
You teasing like you do

Song Lyric Sunday: Photograph

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati. If you’re a blogger and would like to participate, click here for guidelines.

This week’s theme is “photograph.” The song I’m featuring below was popular when I started seventh grade, and for some reason, it was going through my head, as I walked to and from the bus stop each day. Its meaning wasn’t clear then. Now, I can relate to its sentiment and am thankful my late husband didn’t choose to just leave me with only a picture to remember him by. Enjoy, and have a great day.

Photograph–Ringo Starr

Every time I see your face
It reminds me of the places we used to go
But all I’ve got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore
I thought I’d make it
The day you went away
But I can’t make it
Till you come home again to stay
I can’t get used to living here
While my heart is broke, my tears I cry for you
I want you here to have and hold
As the years go by, and we grow old and gray
Now you’re expecting me to live without you
But that’s not something that I’m looking forward to
I can’t get used to living here
While my heart is broke, my tears I cry for you
I want you here to have and hold
As the years go by, and we grow old and gray
Every time I see your face
It reminds me of the places we used to go
But all I’ve got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore

Song Lyric Sunday: Freeway of Love

Song Lyric Sunday was created by blogger Helen Vadahti. If you would like to participate, click here for guidelines.

This week’s theme is cars. In the wake of Aretha Franklin’s recent passing, this song, which was popular when I was in college, is a perfect fit. So hop in, fasten your seatbelt, and enjoy the ride.

Aretha Franklin–Freeway of Love

Knew you’d be a vision in white
How’d you get your pants so tight?
Don’t know what you’re doin’
But you must be livin’ right, yeah
Oh, we got some places to see
I brought all the maps with me
So jump right in, it ain’t no sin
Take a ride in my machine
City traffic movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go, go
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against our backs
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against our back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac?
Never you mind the exit signs
We got lots of time
We can’t quit ’til we get
To the other side, ide, ide
With the radio playin’ our song
We keep rollin’ along
Who knows how far our car can get
Before you think your love slowin’ on down
City traffic’s movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go come on now, go
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against our backs
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against our back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac? Oh yeah
Here we go, one more time mmm
With the wind and your fingers in my hair
Kind of think we’re going for an extended throw down
So drop the top baby
And let’s cruise on into this better than ever street
City traffic’s movin’ way too slow
Drop the pedal and go, go, come on baby, go, do it for me now
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against our back
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac
We goin’ ridin’ on the freeway of love
Wind’s against my back
Ain’t we ridin’ on the freeway of love
In my pink Cadillac?
What I want you to do baby
Get over to the left lane
And let’s merge with peace, oh yeah
Take the love that’s sent ya
And then in the right time
Go on over in love and satisfaction and joy, well
Ain’t we riding babe, ain’t we cruising down
Free, free, sweet
Go on after, awh let’s be good to each other street
Well, see that little landmark over there
A whole lot of kisses and sweet stuff
We’ll be just about, awh, awh, awh
And satisfaction road yeah, satisfaction yeah ooo ahhh
