Bridge Over Troubled Water #Monday Musical Memories

For Christmas of 1969 when I was eight years old, I received my first and only eight-track tape player. It came with two small speakers and three cartridges, one of which was Simon and Garfunkel’s album, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Over the years, I acquired other eight-track tapes by Gordon Lightfoot, Three Dog Night, Sonny and Cher, The Carpenters, and others. But Bridge Over Troubled Water has always been one of my favorites. You can read more about my music listening and singing at https://abbiescorner.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/eight-track-memories/. Now, click below to hear me sing my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song.

Saturday Song: El Condor Pasa by Simon and Garfunkel

This song was on one of my first eight-track tapes. After we moved here to Sheridan, Wyoming, when I was in the sixth grade, I sang it at a local talent competition, accompanying myself on the piano. Although I didn’t win, it was a lot of fun. Enjoy, and have a great Saturday.

Saturday Song: Both Sides Now by Judy Collins

Last week, I heard on National Public Radio that Judy Collins and Steve Stills from Crosby, Stills, and Nash have just released a new album together. At one time years ago, they were even romantically involved, according to the report. This song was mentioned, although I doubt it’s on the album. I enjoyed listening to it in 1967 when it came out. It was on one of my first eight-track tapes when I was growing up in Arizona and played many times on a Tucson radio station. Enjoy, and have a great Saturday.

Saturday Song: Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin

Thanks to Bruce Atchison for inspiring me to post this. On his blog, he posted another Janis Joplin song. The one I’m posting was on an eight-track I had in the 1960’s. It is kind of a dumb song, but as a kid, I liked it because at the time, my family had two Mercedes Benz. I hope you like it too. Have a great Saturday.
