How I Learned About Sex, a Vagina and a Penis #Reblog #Sunday Surprise

Several weeks ago, after I answered a series of raunchy questions on the TMI Tuesday Blog, I received a comment from a blogger, inviting me to send work to a site that publishes stories by women about their vaginas. I just happened to have such a story I wrote years ago. I originally titled it “Birds and Bees,” but I hope you’ll agree the title this blogger gave it is much catchier. Enjoy!

Dropping a Line #TMI Tuesday

I’ve never been much of a fisherman. But according to this week’s TMI Tuesday blog post, the best way to call a fish is to drop a line into the water. So, here goes.

***

What movie can you watch over and over and never tire?

I loved The Wizard of Oz when I was growing up. In the fifth grade, I acted in a play we wrote ourselves, based on the movie. For my twelfth birthday, my grandmother gave me a black dog she’d knitted herself. I held him in my arms and called him Toto. Maybe I was too old, but Toto and I were inseparable for a few years until he unraveled.

Who is someone you only met once but they left a big impression on you?

I can’t think of anyone like that. But I’ve had many friends over the years who have made an impression on me.

If you had to run away from everyone, where would you hide yourself?

Since I live alone, I don’t feel the need to run and hide. Besides, I’ve discovered that you can run, but you can’t hide forever. If I really wanted to, though, I suppose I could hide in my own house. I could close and lock all doors and windows, pull down the shades, and people might think I wasn’t home.

What is the worst topping to put on a pizza?

Peanut butter! I hate it with a passion. I’ve never liked the smell or taste of it. My late husband Bill, on the other hand, loved the stuff and would have eaten it on a pizza if given the opportunity. After he suffered two strokes that paralyzed his left side, guess who had to make his peanut butter sandwiches. What do you spend most of your time doing?

I spend most of my time performing writing-related tasks. When I’m not doing that, I enjoy reading books and magazines and listening to podcasts. I also attend water exercise classes at the YMCA and sing in a women’s choral group.

Bonus: If you could pick any animal to talk, which would it be?

How about dogs? They’re intelligent and observant. I think they would have a lot to say.

TMI Tuesday December 31st 2019

I’m back to end the year with answers to more interesting questions from the TMI Tuesday Blog.

What’s new?

Feel free to elaborate.

In 2019 did you

  1. Get a new job? No.
  2. Get a new haircut? No, I’ve gotten several haircuts in the past year, but they’ve always been the same style. I’ve been going to the same beautician for years, and she always remembers how I like my hair. Heaven help me when she retires.
  3. Get a new car? No.
  4. Move? No. I’ve been in the same house for over ten years, and I like it. As long as I don’t need to move, why bother?
  5. Get a new romantic partner? No. I haven’t been romantically involved since my husband passed in 2012, and I doubt I ever will be. You can read more about this in my memoir, My Ideal Partner: How I Met, Married, and Cared for the Man I Loved Despite Debilitating Odds.
  6. Have a kid? No.
  7. Take up a new hobby? No.

In 2020, will you?

  1. Get a new job? No. Why should I? I’ve been content working for myself as a writer for years, and as long as I don’t need the income, why bother?
  2. Get a new car? No. I’m visually impaired, so you don’t want me on the road.
  3. Take a risk? No. I might have when I was younger, but now, I’m set in my ways and prefer my life less complicated.

TMI Tuesday October 22nd, 2019

I’m trying a new feature. The TMI Tuesday Blog offers weekly questions for bloggers to answer and post on Tuesdays. My answers to this week’s questions are below.

***

Can you handle the truth?

Yes.

A couple of October holidays are coming up. Do you participate in Halloween or Dia de los Muertos? How?

Not being of Mexican or Spanish descent, I’ve never participated in Dia de los Muertos. I no longer observe Halloween.

When my late husband Bill was alive, he enjoyed watching me hand out treats to children who came to our door. After two strokes partially paralyzed him, he could no longer do this himself. So, every year, I bought a huge bag of Halloween candy. At most, we got four kids, so he ate the rest of the candy. Now that he’s gone, since I’m not a candy fan, I no longer bother.

Do your parents/parent like your significant other?

Both my parents and significant other are gone. By the time Bill and I met, my mother had passed. But Dad loved Bill from the start. When I told him about Bill’s marriage proposal, he said, “Well, I’ll be damned. You should think about this, honey. He’s a fine fellow.”

Right now! What do you need most love or validation?

It would be nice to have both, but there are worse things than not having either.

You are singing in the shower. What song do you want to belt out?

I rarely sing in the shower, but when I do, I practice songs I’ll perform later, either with my group or on my own, at nursing homes and other venues.

Bonus: What’s your damage?

Now that’s an awfully broad question. I could write pages and pages about the damage Bill received as a result of his strokes, the damage to my lap top computer after I accidentally dropped it, the weather damage to my roof, etc. But I’ve already mentioned that in past posts. So, I see no reason to re-hash it.
