The Rose #Musical Monday

The song I’m featuring today is one I’ve sung many times since my freshman year in college when, believe it or not, my voice teacher introduced me to it. At Sheridan College, Barb wasn’t one of those instructors who started students out with humdrum art songs in German or Italian. She preferred popular songs with a few older songs thrown in later. When she first sang this song, accompanying herself on the piano, I fell in love with it, having never heard it before.

That year, when my vocal chamber group, which also performed a lot of popular music,  went on tour, I sang the song as a solo, our pianist accompanying me. Over the years, I performed it for talent shows and other events, including weddings, often accompanying myself on piano. In the version you’ll hear today, I’m using the guitar. This is the way I sang it in 2014 for my brother’s second wedding in Florida. Enjoy!
