This feature is now being hosted by newepicauthor. This week’s theme is “doctor/health/medicine.” As Mary Poppins says in this song, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” If I can listen to music while doing the most mundane tasks, they’re more fun for me. Enjoy, and see if you can find an element of fun in your daily chores. That will make bitter pills easier to swallow.
A Spoonful of SugarJulie Andrews
Lyrics Courtesy of Google
In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
The job’s a game
And every task you undertake
Becomes a piece of cake
A lark! A spree! It’s very clear to see that
A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way
A robin feathering his nest
Has very little time to rest
While gathering his bits of twine and twig
Though quite intent in his pursuit
He has a merry tune to toot
He knows a song will move the job along – for
A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way
The honey bee that fetch the nectar
From the flowers to the comb
Never tire of ever buzzing to and fro
Because they take a little nip
From every flower that they sip
And hence (And hence),
They find (They find)
Their task is not a grind.
Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h ah!A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way

Great choice Abbie and I am sorry if I stepped on your toes jumping into hosting this challenge before you did.

No, I stepped on your toes. You were here first. If I’d only checked the comments on Helen’s blog first…

Great choice, Abbie! What some of the “youngsters” may not realize is most “fruit-flavored” medicines didn’t exist for some of us older folks and parents DID give us a spoon full of sugar to help us keep down some pretty horrid-tasting medicines! 😀

Thank you, Felicia, for that bit of information. Fortunately, when I was growing up in the 1960’s, there was such a thing as cherry-flavored cough syrup.

I can vaguely remember St. Joseph’s orange-flavored children’s aspirin, but I had old-school parents who thought something had to taste (and smell) wretched to really work. 😀

I loved Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins and can’t find the same affection for the new movie, although it is fine. My mother was a great believe in a product called Grove’s Chill Tonic, manufactured to help people with malaria in the early 1930s. It had quinine in it but was filled with sugar so people would take it. It became a good-for-all-ills tonic and my mother gave it to us for everything. I hated the taste and the sugar in it did not make it palatable. I learned in recent years that the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC is owned by the man who invented Grove’s Chill Tonic. I think he is dead now, but he became quite rich after the tonic was made.

I haven’t seen the new Mary Poppins movie, but I saw a high school production of this musical several years ago and wasn’t impressed. Nothing beats the Disney movie. Thank you, Glenda, for your comment.

I love this musical. My great-granddaughter was just in this musical at our local high school She is only 9 years old, and we really enjoyed being in the audience to see it. Great choice , Abbie.
